DOG PARK

Reception: September, 18th, 6-8

September 17 - Oct 22, 2021

For this exhibition we asked 9 artist-curators to give an artwork to one of the other invited artist-curators. We then asked that artist-curator to create a group exhibition starting with that artwork. There are 9 separate exhibitions linked together by our communities and the many roles we all play within them.

Artist run galleries have provided an alternative platform for an equitable exchange of labor since the 1870s, running parallel to the commercial market. As art increasingly becomes an off shore or even an entirely virtual commodity, social relationships and physical presence has never felt more critical. Dog Park brings to light 9 nodes in the network of labor and exchange that fuel these artist run spaces. Simultaneously holding the titles “gallerist” and “artist” each gallery selected for the show was asked to curate an exhibition around a fellow gallerist-artist’s work. Meeting and reveling in the joy of new ideas and working in solidarity, these exhibitions present friendship and transparency as an alternative to exploitative and invisible competition based on scarcity economies.
