Award-winning Cleveland artists John W Carlson and Steven Standley will be exhibited at the Field Projects Gallery in a two-person show in New York City, NY. Both John W Carlson and Steven Standley are international artists known for their dynamic paintings. Carlson is an expressionist who focuses on figurative painting and drawing, while Standley identifies as an abstract expressionist creating large paintings.

Pop-Up Show #56 at Field Projects in Chelsea features their recent work, curated by Cleveland Print Room’s Executive Director Shari Wilkins, and was selected for their New York City debut in February 2019. In Carlson's work, he uses the human form in all its complexities and abilities—through gesture expression, and energy to interpret the relationship between us and our emotions. Regarding this art show, Carlson stated,“I am very pleased and gratified to be showing with fellow painter and friend, Steve Standley for this joint show and excited to make my New York City debut.” Standley uses the powers of color, texture, and tension to shape his work to communicate both the sadness and the joy of life at this moment in time .After an intriguing site-specific installation in Cleveland in 2014 that featured 30 large scale paintings, Standley looks forward to “having my work in New York City, being recognized in the art capital of the world.”

John W Carlson lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. Carlson has had his work shown in over ten solo and many two person shows, including acceptance into numerous juried shows, including the prestigious Butler Midyear Show at The Butler Museum of American Art and The Ohio Arts Council’s Riffe Gallery First Juried Show in Columbus, Ohio.  In July of 2015, he was the first artist to show paintings in The Cleveland Print Room gallery, a space dedicated to the photographic arts. Carlson is represented by HEDGE Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. Collected world wide, Carlson’s work is in the permanent collections of the Erie Museum of Art in Erie, Pennsylvania and The Massillon Museum in Massillon, Ohio, as well as private collections in the United States, Chile, United Kingdom, Ethiopia, Iran, South Africa, Vietnam and Norway.

Steven D. Standley is a notable northeastern Ohio visual artist whose paintings are widely collected. Working in different media, Standley’s approach to photography is strongly influenced by stark composition and his usage of color. His photography was show cased at University Hospitals in a joint exhibition last year that focused on Cuba with wet plate collodion photographer, Greg Martin. He is the co-founder of Emerge Cleveland, which strives to promote and support emerging artists in Northeast Ohio. An avid collector of art from many local and regional artists, Standley has a significant collection in his Cleveland Tremont Studio.
