Field Projects is excited to present ECHO LOCATOR.
Echolocation, commonly observed in animals, involves emitting high-frequency sounds and interpreting their echoes to navigate space as well as locate prey. Humans can also employ echolocation; some blind and even non blind individuals can produce sounds and use the returning echoes to perceive their surroundings. In this exhibition the phenomenon is reimagined as a way to bring forward that which is indescribable, while simultaneously discovering one’s place in the world. Each artist engages the viewer in hopes to find them and make sense of their environment. In this act of call and response both parties (viewer and artist) learn new methods to understand each other as well as grounding us and revealing where we truly stand in this community.
Echo Locator was created out of Field Projects own echolocation: the Open Call. This is where we have found about 85% of the artists we have exhibited over the past 13 years. We seek to find those who value artists helping artists, supporting other artists, artists sharing other artists, and building a community around these values.
